I doubt anyone will recognise me, but I joined over 2 years ago when an adorable, unexpected ball of fur came into my life. I'm here to share the memory of a gorgeously unusual chocolate banded syrian, who passed peacefully and quietly in her nest earlier today.
After begging for something small and furry from a young age, my first hamster found her way into our home. She had been ignored and left by a family member, given away to anyone who wanted her. She was dubbed Rosie by my Mum, as she was truly my Second Hand Rose. Caring for her was a giant learning curve, but having her for my very own was magical.
Rosie never got fully tamed. We had a silent agreement that I didn't pick her up unless it was to put her in her ball, and in turn she'd greet me happily. She'd gladly walk all over my hands and shove her snuffling little nose between my fingers.
I'll miss her like crazy, but a quick, painless passing in their sleep is all I want for any creature - from hamster to human.

Rest in peace, my darling.
