View Full Version : Brilliant Bin Cage Idea

Okay, so do you guys know like food storage tubs and stuff? Well you could turn them into a sort of connectable bin cage, ya know? You could used.... I'm not exactly sure what for the tubing, but it couldn't be that hard to figure out, right? So....

Mesh (optional type of ventilation)
PVC pipes (tubing to connect)
Possible a bin for man cage

Maybe I'll even try this. I don't know if I can afford the supplies though. But if you wanted it completely customized... ya know.
Besides, the tupperware possibly comes in different colors (i've seen it.)

Okay or not... Nobody else think this is kind of a cool idea?

Are you meaning as, like, an add-on bed, or a sand room or something? Tuppaware tends to be quite small, and it'd be a lot of effort to connect something so small.

Not small tupperware. I mean like.... I don't know, as add ons and little rooms to add onto a bin cage so as not to have to buy the obnoxious add ons of a normal cage. This way you stick with the customized version and every piece is openable.

Okay, maybe it wasn't that great of an idea...

Just be careful with hand made cages...I unfortunately learned the hard way with one of my older hams...home ideas can be a great way to save money, but your best bet is to ask someone else who has already done something what you should do. Trial and error can be heartbreaking :(

In theory yes, as long as it was safe and gave adequate floor space in each 'pod'.

Personally I think hamsters prefer a large expance of floor space rarther than lots of little areas, and it would be a pig to clean with all those sections and tubes!

I suppose. But if you're into all those little hidey holes and things it could be a really great thing. :)

So you create something like a rotastak? i like the idea, but i'd use it as an addon to liek a bin cage or something... in small boxes you dont get much room for toys :)x

There are all sizes of tupperware you know. :/

Sorry, i didn't mean it meanly or anything... :)x

:/ Hmmm... okay...

It would be a nice substitute for a rotostak attached to a bin cage (which is what a lot of people do )
I think it'd end up like the habitrail ovo, which is cute..
I'd do it attached to a bin cage, make dens etc for a more nervous hamster :)

O.O Thank you! That's what the idea was! :D Finally someone sees what I'm saying!

Seen one recently on .. urr.... drat can't remember where (meh, just google 'hamster bin cages' its bound to turn up eventually) ;) , but it looked a bit like a spider, it had a big bin in the middle with eight 'pods' coming off it made from smaller plastic bins, connected with clear plastic tubing.

Haha, when I searched "Hamster bin cage" in google images, the tenth pic on page 8 is of Katie(Pillow) :D

I'm a modular bin cage, I have a little hammy who lives in my head who controls my body

...Katie is a celebrity:)...in the google hamster bin cages image world! lol
For the tubberware idea, I can see it as a good idea, for sure. Just my thinking is bin cages are already really big, people often complain about already not having enough floor space for them, so adding tubes and tubberware, well it might end taking up half your room! I know if i had a bin cage with those extra tube connecters and larger tubberware connectors it would have to be on the floor, and I would probably always be tripping on it, plus I also would worry about my cat attacking the tubing off while im sleeping to get to the ham:O :D. but if you have like a hamster room, or a huge room it would actually be a nice extra hide-out space for them.....but then again in a bin cage you could add lots of homes and hideout spaces already within the bin cage, so i onno lol, but those would be my own set backs:)
