Well since I've been waiting at least a month and a half for the shelter to get my Imac in,I thought I'd create a temporary home so I can get my hamster during this holiday,so I can keep an eye on it all day. (possibly getting it on Thursday ) I made this bin cage, which still needs things done to it like sanding down the hole, screwing on the wire cage and putting down the free samples of lino on the wire part, when they arrive :) (I'm using plastic tubs for now.

Here it is before everything was fixed in place, the bin was just a spare we had and the wire was from a small cage that I got from Freecycle :D -

...and now with the wheel etc put in and the covering on top -

Inside with a few things to show the size-

Looking out from inside ( you can see just how much it needs to be sanded!

The ventilation on top, which was created from plastic toy farm fences glued together,is not reachable by a hammy so doesn't need to be that safe :)

I do say 'my' homemade cage but the cutting of holes etc were done by my grandpa :)

that looks fine, should serve you well until the imac arrives!
I really like how they can come out into the wire bit, for fresh air and more interaction.
Useful to have the door too :)

Sanding is the worst part of bin cage making :p

Hehe thanks,I also don't have to faff around with drilling holes for bottles and wheels with it! Oh yes I'm really looking forward to the sanding - not!

Yeah i have them from breyer too ;) Accept im not american (A)

The cage looks great! :D I love how you've done the cage coming out, i have a suggestion though :) Im thinking it might not work because of the wheel, butso the hamster doesnt have to walk on wire, i use these Rat Toys : Natural Toy - Chill 'n' Chew Natural Woven Mat : www.EquineCanineFeline.com the place to buy all your Pet Products, Horse Products and Pet Supplies online (http://www.equinecaninefeline.com/catalog/natural-chill-chew-natural-woven-p-285.html) :) Just a thought :) YOu can just lay them down and they look really nice, and there safe to chew

Guess what they said when I was buying things at the shelter/shop today!? 'Your cage will be coming in tomorrow!' Typically when i've just spent all this time making this bin!
So do you think I should attach it to the imac or have words with my mum about a second hamster? ;)

If your up for the challenge then go ahead and try attaching it :)
Deal with the first hamster for the moment and have a think about whether another would be right for you!

fantastic job and always be a good place to use as a play area to let hammy explore while your cage cleaning etc etc.. so your time spent wont be wasted. imacs are great cages :)

Agree with Dora - it will be great as a play area or somthing to pop hammy in while cleaning - your hard work is not wasted! :-)
