Awesome Lkwhetstone! Welcome to the forum! I’m always pleased to see people act responsible about researching an animal before they buy one!

Do you know what kind of hamster you would like to get yet?

For a first time owner I would recomend a Syrian hamster, they are the easiest to handle and good tempered. :)

here is a link to info on the syrian.

Welcome to you and great to have you with us. It is so exciting getting a new friend and you do right to look into all aspects of hamster care before you get your pet  I too would say a Syrian is best for a first hammy though if you did want to keep two together you would need to choose a dwarf. Syrians must be kept alone. Look forward to hearing about your new hammy when it arrives
