Question: Does anyone else notice their roborovski hamsters chirping through the night? I was awoken last night by strange noises. At first, I thought one of the silent spinner wheels had been going so fast they had broken it! All I could hear were these machine gun type, sort of chirping, but more of a grinding chirp, if you know what I mean?

So really, I suppose I`m asking what noises other members have heard from their robos. My two were playing on their wheel at the time and out and about through the night, so I could`nt actually see what was going on, or why they were making these noises? Very strange!

They are two males by the way! I love them to bits!

Hey

As you prbably know, mine are chinese, but they do make noises which sound similar to what you are describing. Its like a squeak/chirp soudn and when they make it they put their front paws up to their mouths like they're cleaning :?

I read somewhere that these noises are made when they are distressed or looking for something. Example if they have hidden found and cant find it again. I was really worried at first as i thought it was a sneazing sound and thought they might be allergic to something

Hopefully some other members can shed a bit more light on it for you :D

I only had two Robos for a short time, one ended up passing away and the cause is still unknown. I do remember hearing them make little noises at one another from time to time. I think its just a way of communicating.

I have a colony of four female gerbils living together and they often chirp and squeal at each other. I would just be sure they aren’t being aggressive with one another, incase the noises are from squabbling.

Thankyou both for your replies! The boys are getting on okay, so I`m thinking they were communicating in some way. Boy, can they chatter! Little tykes woke me up at 2:00am this morning! I`ll be keeping a close eye on them right enough, but last night before I went to bed, they were playing together in their regular silent spinner wheel and when tired out, both would sit still in the wheel as if resting. It was really cute. They have a wash and then start playing again!
