Default Someone trying to access my hc account

Got an email saying someone in China tried to log into my account?

Should I be worried? Is this happening a lot?

Very odd!

that is very strange! I'm sure a moderator will be online shortly.

In the mean time I'd consider changing any passwords to anything critical like email and anything you don't want anyone else accessing. It may be you've stumbled onto a key logger somewhere. Better be safe than sorry. Malware/virus scan then password changed x

I agree with CPalmer - scan and password change everything not just your HC account and do it now. It could have been an error with someone with a similar HC name trying to log in but unfortunately probably not. It may not seem that bad with just a forum account, as opposed to something like your online bank account, but that is how they get their hands on your personal details which leads them on to other things. Change your passwords and make sure they are all different - include words and numbers (don't use your date of birth) and use characters as well such as !%& and so on. I would also notify your bank that there has been some unauthorized activity on one of your online accounts - they will monitor your bank account activity more carefully for awhile and flag anything suspicious.

We've had reports of a few people's accounts trying to be accessed from China. The site will lock them out if they have 5 failed attempts. I believe Fluffy is banning the IP addresses of those trying to access your account, so if you send him the details I'm sure he could look into it for you.

Not to hijack this thread, but is there a setting through the site that will send me that email if someone else tries to log in? Or is this an app for a smartphone?

The place they are coming from has been reported as a spam site. The chances of them getting your password in 5 attempts is virtually nil. Admin is working on the issue to try and stop the spammers. If you report the Private message we can look at the IP address that is trying to do this and ban it. Bear with us and it will be sorted.

We are not the only community being hit with this issue. Other then 1 ip I have seen, they are all coming out from china. One thing we could do would be to increase the time out or reduce the number of tries allowed. Either one will impact all members and I for one have locked myself out from time to time tend to not like the option. More then likely they are hoping members are using their username as their password or a slight variation. So please make your password is not easy to guess, and include numbers and special characters. Ie , etc.

I'm not sure I understand. If someone were to try to log into my account would I be notified? And by whom? :-/
