If someone were to try and log in to your account they would put your user name in then attempt the password. They are likely to try things like your user name again or password and if you have chosen wisely they won't get in.
The forum allows 5 tries of a password then it will lock login for that member for the next 15 minutes.
At that point the forum will send an email to your registered email address to advise you that someone has attempted a log in. It will give a IP address for the source of the attempt.
It will not be a 'person' sitting in China trying to log in but a computer trying it's luck.
Never use a password that is your user name or your user name plus a 1 or something easy to guess. Make it complicated with a comma or a few numbers. Make sure you know what it is though so you don't lock yourself out!
It happens all the time and everywhere so try and not worry. They are always looking for ways round banning IP addresses and we deal with mega spam on a daily basis.

Dear sully,

Someone has tried to log into your account on Hamster Central with an incorrect password at least 5 times. This person has been prevented from attempting to login to your account for the next 15 minutes.

The person trying to log into your account had the following IP address: 124.166.242.221

That is china, though the "hackers"* may be double routing and doing a process similar to money laundering to their computers. they could be a couple of broke university dudes in texas for all we know.
*they aren't really hackers, but more like fishers on a reeaaally bad platform for password guessing, probably just trying to troll. I mean, there's no real profitable details on our accounts, is there?

test how secure your password is with this. I use this for stuff, you know, more... "should be well secured" things. you'd be surprised.
mine takes 12,000 years to crack, how about yours?
Edit:
that's my hamster central one, my other one takes 2 billion years
disclaimer:
they have five tries for 15 minutes on this site, you might as well add a couple thousand years to your time.

PS
if your paranoid about this website stealing your password, type in the password replacing numbers, ie:
Hamster321321
change to
hamster432432.
disclaimer. I'd be serious money this couldn't steal your password if it tried, since it doesn't know your websites that you use it on or your username.

That's good advice cheeto

Please everyone make sure that your password is secure for the forum. If you notice any spam then report it via the little red triangle on every post/private message.
