Believe it or not, HC is spammed ALL the time. I believe these are spam bots that randomly join forums. Most of the time the spam bots register but don't post randomly on the forum like they did in this instance. They simply sit there in the member list advertising objectionable material in their profiles.

I usually delete about two or three spam account in the span of, id say two or three days. People just don't know it because I catch them and delete them.

Lately we have been seeing more and more spam bots actually posting content on the forum which is very upsetting and frustrating to me.

The features integrated with the forum at this time do a poor job of filtering them out. Smoo thinks that if we update the forum to the latest version it might help. He speculates that if they are spam bots, they may be exploiting something in the older version of the forum. Hes not certain but its a place to start so hopefully it will help when he gets around to it. He says possibly tomorrow, so if the site goes down for a time that is why. Just an FYI.

Now and then I go through the member list and clean it up, deleting spam accounts and accounts of those who have never posted. Then daily I get rid of any spam accounts I see register. But It does need to be stopped, we will do the best we can. I cleaned up what was posted though. I apologize but we do what we can, all forum experience this to some level.

SnuggleHam I'm only too well aware of the havoc these spammers wreak as a friend of mine has had his Board spammed to death but fortunately he's got it all under control now.

This spamming business is sooooooooooooooooooo frustrating...it really gets to me...wish there was some official way of controlling it...it's so maddening when it happens on forums that span the ages...this filth should not be open to view by those of tender years nor to anyone else who would be offended by it...my view is that those who want to view that sort of stuff can go look for it themselves and when Boards like this one get targetted it is so very very wrong.

My gripe is with the spammers not with you...you're an innocent in all this and I commend you for the stance that you have taken in relation to it.

Down with the spammers

It is a nightmare really snd so mega pointless. Internet vandalism really. I get so fed up of receiving about 30 spam e mails a day and that is with Norton in place. It is rubbish. I try and trap stuff too but sometimes it gets through before we can mod it.

Seconded.

Don't even get me started on this subject...it drives me nuts.

I went on my mate's message board yesterday, only to find that it had been totally spammed yet again...almost every thread...obviously security has been stepped up today as they've all disappeared. We've learned to ignore them...the odd sarcastic post goes up now and again but in the main we just live with it...no choice really.

I have a spamfilter and I don't get any unwanted E mail at all...how strange

I've made some changes to how SnuggleHam and I deal with our own e-mail situation and neither of us get any spam e-mails anymore. The key was a combination of being careful who we give e-mail addresses to as well as using e-mail forwarding addresses through our web hosts.

Unfortunately, there are people who make things difficult, but some diligence and care can go a long way toward making the net a much more enjoyable place!
