Classified Ads
I was wondering how long classified ads are allowed to run before they are deleted? Unlike the old posting style where someone would post a hamster or an article for sale or rehoming and people could reply in a way where everyone could read it and know if that hamster or article had sold or been rehomed, we can`t know if this is the case now as we just see the original ad, but no replies!
I must admit to liking the old posting method which has now been locked.

Hello racinghamster,
I’m not sure how much you investigated the new classifieds section of the website so Ill try and address your concerns. All classified ads posted are automatically deleted after 30 days. By that time, if a user needs to continue the ad they will need to re submit it for another run of 30 days.
If someone has an ad that’s expired because someone has answered the call of that ad, I am able to delete it. I only require an email or private message from the user who listed the ad to do so.
Other people are able to reply to the ad via the PMing (your inbox) system of the forum, or what ever contact information you choose to display, that can include email or chat clients.
This method is easier for me to moderate, and I wanted to implement it in such a way that each article could be monitored. Also not everyone has to use the forum if they don’t wish to. And this way it allows us to show how many classified ads a user has listed in their profiles.

That`s fine SnuggleHam. I knew about replying to a particular ad via PM or e-mail. I just was`nt sure how long ads were allowed to run before they were deleted automatically. But I totally understand why this new system overuled the old one if it`s easier for you to moderate and control. I understand it all now!

If you have any more questions, Smoo and I put together a little something about the website and its features here on HC. The link can be found on the main page under "About the site" and the link is called "Q&A about Hamster Central"
Here is the link anyway for fast referance from this thread.
I encourage everyone to give that a read..
