Default Re: are gloves an efficient way to hold hamsters?

Gloves really aren't a good idea unfortunately for a variety of reasons. The big one would be that hamsters wouldn't be anywhere near used enough to actual bare hands which can lead to behavioral issues and such later on. However, wearing gloves also tends to limit just how much sensation you're able to get compared to being bare handed - same with control of things like being able to make very small adjustments to the amount of pressure used, grip strength, and overall gloves just make precise handling of animals harder.

If I'm completely honest wearing gloves also leads to a false sense of confidence and ultimately makes things harder for you. It's a hard thing to adjust to but in my opinion being able to accept that sometimes being bit or scratched just comes with the territory of handling animals without letting yourself panic or be overly fearful of it.

Even with the best methods of prevention such as learning to recognize signs in body language before the animal in question has to resort to using things like biting or scratching to communicate with you, accidents can and will still happen. Work on your own confidence without resorting to things like gloves and that will go a very long way!
