I always tame outside of a hamster's cage because i think that their habitat is their territory and my hand could be seen as an intruder.

You could try interacting with him while sitting in a dry bath tub with a blanket and hides down or playpen/safe area with him and let him run around on your lap. Then do some scooping up exercises so he gets used to being handled.

It may or may not work depending on the hamster's personality. Some like interacting with humans and others don't.
