I finally managed a couple of pictures - poor thing, not dignified!
There is also a small wet patch at hip height usually just on the left side, which Fingers is always grooming and rubbing on things - I assume a scent gland, but not sure if this is any help in identifying a sex.

I suppose in the end it doesn't really matter, I wasn't planning on hamster babies, just curious!
