Merry is an odd hamster. He stops and listens if I talk to him when he gets up during the day for a drink, or if I'm hear him scrabbling about in his house - he only carries on when I stop talking. And yet he's happy to sit on my hands and be stroked, and knows that when I feed and water him in the evenings that if he sticks his head out he'll get food (and maybe treats).

This evening I had him in the sofa. His cage is by one corner of the sofa, so put up a ramp that goes from the sofa to his cage. So he got on it, walked down it, then over it onto the back of the sofa, and ended up going back into his cage over my hands. It's a good thing we don't love hamsters for their brains.
