My advice to you would be to contact a rescue where sometimes the personality of a hamster is already known so they could tell you a bit about him or her. You may also be able to handle a hamster or one may "speak" to you meaning that you're drawn to him/her and vice versa. I know this sounds fictional but it really does happen.
