I do think you need to find another vets that can check things over and maybe give oyu a course of antibiotics and pain killer to be on the safe side. Maybe ring around a few to see if they can help, explain the situation you have found yourself in.
Not sure what country you are in but I have the Marrakesh cage which is a terrarium, very solidly built and arrived without anything broken.
