Serendipity, there are definitely exposed edges inside the cage. If it were just around the top it wouldn't be a huge issue other than potentially having the material wear down over time which then risks having some fall into the cage(unsafe obviously). With the exposed edges inside the cage, those absolutely must be covered for hamster safety as well as to keep the cage structurally sound as mentioned.
