Default Re: Geriatric dwarf hamster housing

The above is in a 100cm cage - this is an 80cm cage for our current syrian but not all at floor level as he isn't old This cage would actually be good for an ageing dwarf and if I was going to make it into a retirement bungalow I would remove the sputnik and roof tube. And add more at floor level. It's the Lixit Mickey 2XL in the US but a bit expensive in the US. It's a very good cage though and suitable for all species of hamster so fairly futureproof. It's good for a dwarf as it is fairly low height and only has 7mm bar spacing. It also has that lovely big front opening door so really good for interacting with your hamster. It makes a big difference to top opening. If you don't mind spending the money I would say that is a much better buy than the Fop Tamburino - it's a slightly better size and can be used for other hamsters in the future in varying set ups. It comes with a dwarf sized wheel and a short tube run as a floor toy. The metal grid shelf needs removing though. The hanging sputnik can be used upside down at floor level. Size wise it is not too big, not too small.
