I've had sand and dust seep out from the bottom of the front and back panels of my Marrakesh, so I expect pee could too. The grooves in the wood where the glass slots in used to get caked in dust which I just scraped out, but pee could easily ruin the wood. Some people have used aquarium silicone sealant to seal the edges. A hemp mat slightly bigger than the base of the cage, turned up at the edges might absorb enough to protect the wood. I suppose it depends on the hamster's peeing habits.
