I have heard of people putting correx/coropast on the bottom - protects the bottom of the cage. It's plasticized corrugated cardboard basically. Wipe clean and easy to replace. Hemp mat would be nice but it can get pee soaked.

I bought some sheets of coroplast on ebay (used them to make a playpen at one time).
