A wooden house also needs to be coated with something safe to pee proof it, here we use Plastikote water based enamel paint.
It's a fish safe sealant that I have read is suitable for hamsters, people use it to seal off the edges of the IKEA detolf and other DIY cages.

I am in the UK, would PVA stick larger chunks of wood together? I am not sure it would hold sadly.

Unfortunately I can't get hold of any plastikote here, it has been out of stock everywhere I have looked for ages and my last lot has run out, so if you know anywhere that has it in stock that would be great haha
