I can't speak for everyone, but it is known that Amazon tends to put smaller businesses out of business quite literally - in some cases buying them out and such. It's not good at all, and they also don't tend to have very good regulations in regards to counterfeit or poorly manufactured knockoff type products as well as unsafe products(not just hamster related).

I know Amazon is convenient and easy so people tend to just go with Amazon, but it is always best to stick to local and smaller businesses as much as you can and use Amazon as your last resort(and generally not for foods etc for common counterfeit and such reasons mentioned). There are smaller online businesses too, not just questionable at best giants - something I've noticed some people do get wrong as online business isn't always bad!
