Is that wood shavings he's on? Could've got spiked on a sharp bit. I'd highly recommend paper bedding more absorbent and better on their respiratory system. It's softer too I'd recommend Kaytee clean and cosy it's pretty cheap on Amazon.

Also may be worth putting more bedding in there so he can burrow, although if the current bedding is sharp I'd hold off putting more in, might end up being poked in the eye. Maybe add a few more cardboard tubes with food in them for some more fun as he doesn't appear to have much in there to chew or play with (unless it's hidden)

He isn't happy about you removing his hoard because it's basically the equivalent of someone coming in and binning all the food in your kitchen cupboards and then leaving.
