Default Re: Keeping hamsters warm in winter

This is the one I have. There are cheaper ones but these are good re safety cut outs etc and it has been very reliable. No leaks. We have the bigger one of the these as well which costs more than twice as much! The little one is fine to take the chill off a room They have to be "primed" before use - ie leave it on full temperature constantly for a day in a ventilated room to burn off any manufacturing smells. The smell isn't nice, but once burned off it is a very good heater. It took longer than the instructions said for the smell to burn off.

In a small room it will warm the room nicely but not too much (and there are temperature settings for adjusting). In a larger or high ceilinged room it will never full warm a room but it will stop it getting too cold - if that makes sense. Which is not a bad thing as hamsters can get too hot as well! Although I have never found that a problem except on extremely hot days in summer. As long as the room is no more than 20 degrees it's fine.
