Stands can be a great tool, but they can also be a problem if not chosen carefully. I would personally lean towards having a stand, but it's something you can work around if you can't get a stand for whatever reason. You also don't want something that's not adequate for supporting the weight of a cage, and while this is definitely more of a problem with heavy tank style cages it is still a thing to consider especially in the purchasing process. A stand of any kind that could collapse at some point due to being incapable of supporting the full weight of a cage would be far less safe than keeping a cage on the floor!
