I just got my hamster but from what I’ve learned, you don’t count additional levels as floor space, as hamsters are borrowers, not climbers. You can build a platform to get the water bowl and food bowl out of the way if you really want to.

Otherwise, you need to build as big as you can on one single floor, and provide deep layers of bedding to allow your baby to burrow (6 inches at least).
