I'm so sorry for your loss. It is hard to lose a little one so young. Often we never know the cause. Some are born with a defect that only affects them as they grow. With the one sided swelling it does sound like there was a blockage of some sort or maybe a womb infection or ovarian cyst which can affect females of any age.
Blockages can be caused by the fluffy bedding which should never be used for hammies but the other issues you could not have known or done anything about really. She had a short but happy life with you where she was treated with love.
