I knew there would come a day when I would have to make this post.
Little Key Lime, I found you last night.

I remember when I met you. You were the smallest out of all your brothers, just a little furry thing, not even the size of a golf ball. I remember when I put my hand in the tank, you were the only one who walked up to sniff my fingers. I knew you were my hamster.

I remember how excited I was to set up your beach themed cage, with the little lighthouse, the pineapple, the sand, and that popsicle stick house I spent an entire Saturday on.
I remember you and your brother hid most of the day during the first weeks, but you would come out during the day and explore. I was always so excited to watch you.

You gave me many a good laugh, whether it was when you would fling yourself off your wheel, stuff your mouth full with every bit of food you could get, or run to the front of the cage everytime I was there to beg for treats. I remember when I put on a Beatles record next to your cage, and as soon as it started playing, you sat by the glass to listen. That was one of my favorites.
You never bit me or squawked at me, you were always my sweet little boy. My little KiKi.

It breaks my heart to see you go, but I feel a little better knowing that I gave you a fun time full of toys and treats. I got to see you live to the old age of 2 1/2 years. Even though you were old and frail in your last few weeks, you still remained the same sweet little boy I got in two years ago.
I remember two days ago, when I gave you an oat spray and you just sit there to let me pet you- something you rarely ever did because it startled you. I will treasure that memory, as it is one of my favorites I have of you.

I’m really gonna miss you buddy. Rest easy little Key Lime. <3
