Default Re: Good cage for a Syrian hamster

I think the Barney or Alexander would be great cages. I have the Barney for our Syrian. I have a soft spot for the Alexander and always wanted one but it was out of stock for a while so I got the Barney. They are both good - slightly different. There is also the Savic Hamster Plaza - it's about the same dimensions as the Alexander. It has a big front opening door, which is good for interaction with a hamster and means you can attach things to the roof. It is quite tall but fine if you have plenty of depth of substrate and there is nothing hard or sharp to fall in if they climb to the top (you could put any hard or sharp items under or on the shelf).

Personally I prefer cages to tank style ones - better ventilation, front access and you can make it interesting with attaching things to bars etc.
