Hmm indeed! As you have capable retired man available (I’m ignoring his wish for fish as they don’t compare to hams hee hee hee!), I would go for it. Where there is a will there is a way as they say. For what it is worth, I think hams live for such a short time relatively speaking that they should be as well looked after as they can be for as long a time as possible. If Gordon has been there since March that is quite a long time out of a short life. He would be better with you being loved and cared for and I know from your other postings that you would (somehow) make an enriched environment for him to live in X
