Thank you Coco. Yes there wasn’t enough ventilation under the house with it being on the base. Much better with substrate under and he will enjoy digging. Seems the shelf haul is a famous hamster trick then! Poor OH was asked to get his saw out late at night to improve Newt’s house, which he kindly (ie grumpily) did. Cut out the little wall to the far right compartment so he can get into the potty without squeezing himself between the door and the potty through a not very big gap. He moved his pee area there but the potty is part over the door (or was - bigger door now). Also made the round holes into arches (except the nest compartment). Just while we were at it as it helps when the get less mobile (just in preparation).
