As a new Hamster owner i really need help!!

I have 2 syrian hamsters and have always kept them seperate in different cages, Harty is male, 17 months and Hetty female 8 month.

When i have them both out of their cages in their balls they always seem to follow each other round and seemingly trying to play but have heard you shouldnt put them together as they do not like other hamsters???

Harty has never liked being held or any human contact in general so try my best not to he also scares easy even in is cage he doesnt like load noises, Hetty loves being in contact with humans and very often have her on me, nothing really bothers her. They are very different hamsters

should i try?? whats the bet way??
