At night it is better for them to be in darkness
During the day they are asleep mostly. Although to interact with them and see them some light would be needed in the evenings. As they are night creatures and don't see well, too much light isn't good.
Trying to imagine a room that has no lights in it? Presumably there's a light bulb?
