I've found our hamsters won't eat the things like crickets and silkworm pupae! Mealworms maybe but not always.

For our dwarf hamster (robo) I used the Junior Dwarf bio rodipet mix, mixed 50% with the Bunny Dwarf Dream mix. That means mealworms are included and he gets the variety if both mixes. The Bunny one has more smaller seeds in.

That mix is still too low in protein so it does need supplementing. I used to give freeze dried chicken every 3 days or so for that, plus a nut or two once a week.

These days I add a few science selective pellets (all in one mix with correct level of protein) on top of the food bowl, or scatter them. Those always get taken.
