My hamster only recently started to really show interest in me when he turned exactly three months, like running towards me when i'm near the cage, running onto my hands without treats, licking my face, cleaning me when he's cleaning himself etc.
This is his way of showing affection, but he's still not fond of being actually petted. It has taken me 8 weeks for him to become this comfortable with me.

Basically, some hamsters just do not like being petted - doesn't mean they don't like you. They just aren't a cuddly-type. Your hamster might be more of an explorer or haven't bonded with you quite yet. It's all a process and figuring out your hamster's personality.
