Put a throw or blanket over the cage. I found that really helped - it can very raw seeing the cage at first. But I found it easier to avoid looking with a blanket over the top of it. It took me a couple of weeks to feel ready to remove it and then clean everything out and put things away. Which was a bit emotional but felt better once done.
