Ok!
I did a variant with a cardboard box, and put a glass jar (size of sphaghetti sauce jar) with sand in it at the back. I thought the jar might keep the sand from getting everywhere, or when you say litter tray, do you specifically mean a tray?
I'll have to find a shoebox with a lid. I'm realizing Cypher recommended that too.. I cut the flaps off of a cardboard box and turned it over. Would be much nicer to be able to lift the top and take a peek. Great idea, thanks!
