Seems to be different views on bowls
At one time people were saying they were very unhygienic as can get bedding and other things in them. I guess a responsible owner will put them in a place where the water won't get soiled and have a shallow dish. Never had a need for a water dish myself but do sometimes use two bottles to make sure they get water.
