I don’t think people usually realise how exhausting it is drilling an appropriate number of holes into the plastic! The holes would need to be really close together for decent ventilation which then increases the likelihood of cracking. All in all it’s a very long & stressful experience - I had a go with a bin carrier at one point to see if it was possible and gave up relatively quickly, so can’t imagine how it would be with a cage! Also not convinced any amount of holes would provide as much ventilation as mesh to be honest.
