Default Re: Worried that cage is wrong.... Rosewood abode?

That's a good point - her personality may dictate some of it. Our robo prefers a cage to a tank (by his behaviour) but then he was born in a cage so maybe it's more familiar.

The duna multy is quite low so taming and interaction doesn't have to be difficult. I would give her a week to see how she is but if she's showing signs of cage stress in the Rosewood Abode then upgrade her. If she seems ok then maybe leave it 2 or 3 weeks before upgrading her. Either way I'd have a larger cage ready for her - it wouldn't really matter if it's a tank style or a duna multy style I'm sure she'd adjust.

The Duna Multy is one of the cheaper options along with the Alaska cage from Zooplus but the Alaska is a bit tall for a dwarf hammy and would need careful setting up. The Hamster Heaven can be a bit expensive but is only £50 from Zooplus. Does have a nice big front door though. The Grosvenor is a cheaper option I think about £45 and not too big or too small but only has top access too. So the only real advantage is attaching things to the bars and it comes with a shelf.

I would probably go with either the Hamster Heaven (without all the plastic tubes and penthouse and just one shelf) or the duna multy - depending whether you prefer a cage or a tank. The Abode would be good for somewhere to put her during cage cleaning and also as a hospital cage in the future if you ever needed it - for an older or ill hamster.

If you haven't got far to travel home you should be ok leaving her in that cage if you sit with it on your knee say and hold on to it and someone else is driving I do that with the pet carrier and put a fleece blanket over the top so it's darker and less scary. If its a longer journey a pet carrier may be better.

This is the Ferplast Aladino - it's big enough to fit lots of bedding and a little house inside (or cardboard box house).

These are the cages on Zooplus - Hamster Heaven and Alaska may be an option. They take between 2 or 3 days and up to a week to deliver. But postage is free. Although hamster heaven isn't cheaper at the moment.
