Yes the low containers can be a problem. I use two sand pits, one is a plastic fish bowl jar also from £ shop as it’s deeper and harder to kick out since it’s a sphere (ikea also do a glass one). I use a rabbit bowl or deeper glass bowl for the other.
I’ve used wooden boxes (ebay - pine open top wooden box) one of the deeper versions before with no problem, that’s more fun for syrians as it’s more like a dig box than a sand bath.
