It will be stressful if you change all the substrate at once, if you're using shredded plain white toilet tissue for your hams nest you could try putting plenty of that in the cage & leaving that for a while so it gets his scent on it & then spread that over or mix it with the top layer of substrate when you change it, if you don't change anything else of clean anything else for a while too that will help.
