I think you just have to remind yourself that if anyone is going to be nervous it's your ham! If you feel nervous your ham will pick up on it, if he hasn't shown any signs of being nippy then it's highly unlikely he will bite so just try to relax & concentrate on trying to make him feel safe & comfortable rather than on your fear.
If you have a playpen or other safe, escape proof, area where you can interact with him then use that (you can get him to climb into a tube, mug, box or something to transport him) give him some toys to explore & just gradually introduce your hand, if you lay your hand flat he will probably just run over them to start with, don't make any sudden jerky movements, keep your hand still at first & you should be fine.
