I wouldn't recommend using this inside your hamsters cage - things that smell very strongly of paint should be avoided especially as it could be really overwhelming to hamsters. Also I would be careful of using things that are specifically designed for hamsters without knowing what material the product is made of as these items might be toxic if chewed on and ingested.

For some aromatic compounds this is true however their are other aromatic compounds which smell which aren't safe - such as bleach and compounds which contain the -phenol group. The best way to tell for certain safety is knowing the molecular formula to see which group the compound belongs in.
