This could be associated to cage rage as someone else has already pointed out in another thread started by you. Unfortunately, when in a small cage, their behavior changes quite dramatically and show severe signs of stress and anxiety. Since you recently purchased the cage, try getting a refund for it from the store? Most pet stores should allow a refund if the product isn't suitable.
