Whimzees are definitely the way to go, most hams love them, the small toothbrush ones are probably the best.
I wouldn't recommend putting anything on chews or wood, I know some people use fruit or peanut butter but I think you just run the risk of things going mouldy & something like cereal wouldn't really stay on.
If you want to try wood as well as whimzees hazel or apple twigs which you can buy are the best.
