You definitely can't put lemon juice in the water, hams should never have any citrus & I wouldn't use distilled water, unless you have a real problem with your water quality then I can't imagine that would cause a problem with the bottles.
Some bottles won't work if you fill them completely so you always need to leave some space in the bottle & then just running a clean finger over the spout should get the water flowing.
If you can't find any bottles that work but don't leak you could just use a very small bowl.
