Default Re: ferret cage used as Syrian hamster cage

I was thinking that was a very good price, but then noticed it's only a kit for the cage not the actual cage itself. Shelves etc. As for the cage - the only real issue is the wide bar spacing (other reviewers say it's too wide for rats).

If you're looking for a good cage or tank in the US we can recommend some, and a lot depends on budget. What kind of hamster is it for - a Syrian?

There are a couple of good cages that are a good size but both cost between $100 to $140. There are also bin cages which are popular and work out cheap. Or diy cages. The detolf is a popular option. You tip it on it's side, leave the door off and just have a lid to make

A detolf is good for either a Syrian or a dwarf hamster. Bin cages are also good for dwarf hammies but it can be hard finding a bin cage big enough for a Syrian hamster as they have bigger stuff which can take up a lot of the floorspace.

This cage is excellent for a Syrian hamster - the 82 size not the 72 - costs $112

A 40 gallon breeder tank is also a popular option for either a Syrian or dwarf hamster. When Petsmart (or Petco - can't remember) have their $ per gallon sales you can get one for $40 - they have these sales regularly.

Edit - just noticed you said Syrian If you can afford it I would get the Goran - it's a great cage with a big front opening door so good access for cleaning and taming. Comes with a very nice rat tube as well - and you can set it up how you want and don't have to use the plastic shelf. If it's too expensive or you want something bigger, I'd go with the detolf, if you have space and don't mind a bit of diy to make a lid. Or a bin cage.
