I have a Syrian who (mostly) pees in his sand bath. When he was peeing elsewhere I took a bit of that substrate and put it in the sand bath to encourage him to go there. That seemed to (mostly...) for he trick. But, like Fluffagrams, I have a male Chinese who always pees in his wheel. And yes, it can whiff a bit but - and maybe it's just me - I'd rather that than peeing elsewhere and having to find that and disturb his cage. If it gets really bad, I give it a good clean but like Fluffagrams I mostly use a wet piece of kitchen towel to wipe his wheel a couple of times a week.
