You have a LH boy don’t you? Carefresh does get very tangled. I found that back2nature paper pellets (sold in pets at home) are the best for avoiding tangles in long hair. The downside is that it isn’t good for burrowing. Some people use wood based cat litter for long haired hams, but I think that would be quite hard and uncomfortable.

EDIT: Forgot you are in the US. Not sure if back2nature is sold there. An alternative would be aubiose. That is better for burrowing in anyway but only comes in massive packs shich I don’t have room for in my house.
