To be a champion he needs 3 Certificates of Merit from 2 different judges. He's fallen just out of getting a certificate 2 shows in a row!
Grand Challenge is one of the duplicate class, and you have to enter this to be eligible to be awarded a Certificate of Merit. It means he was 3rd in the show.
